The Senseful of the Negative

The Senseful of the Negative | FSG USA BLOG

If there were no negatives, there would be no positives. But if a human being wants to experience the positive, he/she cannot avoid having to accept the negative. He/she could never know and experience what true love is if he/she could not experience unkindness and even hatred. He/she would never know what true freedom is if it were not for lack of freedom. Without unhappiness, no happiness could be experienced because it simply would not exist, just as there would be no joy if joylessness did not exist as the contrary/opposite-pole. Every blissfulness and pleasure, every prosperity, success, boon and well-fare, every life pleasure, happiness, well-being, salvation, advantage, achievement and benefit, cornucopia, advancement and victory as well as every gratification, every ecstasy of joy, every cheerfulness, jubilation, intoxication, enjoyment, fortunate day as well as every delightfulness, honor, merriness, satisfaction, excitement and liberation are opposed by weariness, displeasure, resentment, agony, but also unwillingness, anger and rage, ununderstanding, tribulation, grief and affliction, as well as embitterment, sorrow, worry, depression, calamity, mischance, self-torment and misfortune, desolation, hopelessness, abandonment, hardship and bitterness, as well as burden and need, misery and hardship, disadvantage, pain, distress, anger, horror, dissonance, conflict, tension, strife, resentment and discord, etc.

The human being can never experience one without the other, so not the positive without the negative, and not the negative without the positive. A light can only shine in the darkness, just as a star can only shine in the night sky or in the dark universe. And darkness can only come into its own if it is able to displace the light. Thus, impenetrable darkness can only exist because, in contrast, light is also present and real. Death can only rule because there is life, and life only exists because there is also death. But life is so precious because it is restricted by death, and death in turn is so precious because it guarantees learning and evolution as well as rebirth and thus the continuation of the spirit form. In this way, all contrary things condition each other, because everything belongs together in every form and forms an inseparable oneness, like ebb and flow, the tides of the seas and their waves, which are raised and set in motion by the winds, the powers of the moon and nature.

Of course, the human being does not want the negative, he/she does not want ununderstanding, sorrow and affliction, pain, calamity and misfortune, misery and hardship and nothing at all that is negative in any way. But precisely this is most tragic, because he/she overlooks the fact that all the negative manifestations of life are not lest purely negative, but that all the negative things of existence effectively embody the fundamental prerequisites for the possibility of promoting, undergoing and experiencing the positive, such as happiness, peace, freedom, true love and joy, equalizedness and harmony and all other meaningful things in life. And indeed, it is only in this way that everything in the life becomes senseful (makes sense), that the positive and negative connect to each other in total/absolute oneness.

Ununderstandingly, humans would prefer to avoid everything that belongs to the negative domains of life, eradicate everything, eliminate it, banish it and isolate it deep in an abyss. Fortunately, however, this is not possible for man, because if this were possible, man would dissolve the creational given inner oneness of the contrary, thereby losing the human identity that is built on contrariness.

Many humans attempt to turn to the purely positive and fail miserably, because in doing so they create an enormous number of life problems for themselves, which result from misunderstanding the basic structure of life and the mistaken assumption that only the positive leads to progress and success, but not the negative, which is truly inseparably connected to the positive. Humans could understand, undergo and experience many difficult hours and times during their lives very differently if they realized that the only reason they cannot live a full life of love, joy, freedom, peace, happiness, equalizedness and harmony is that they only live half the life by striving for the purely positive and by disregarding the importance of the negative.

"The law of the contrariness is given in everything, whether it be in the ebb and flow of the seas, whether in the blowing or the calm of the wind, in the day and in the night, in the light and in the darkness or in the male and the female, in the life and dying, in the birth and in the death, in the noise or in the stillness, in the love and in the hatred, in the peace and in the war, because this law of the contrariness is interwoven into all and everything and is therefore recognizable everywhere."
